Silence Is Complicity—It’s Time to Take a Stand

I know, or better said, I hope that, if you’re reading this, you’re not here for just pretty pictures. Photography is about capturing real stories, stories that matter, stories that reflect truth. And I’ve realized something: staying quiet about my values is no longer an option. I used to think that my work spoke for itself, that people knew where I stood. But as the world gets darker—as fascism, racism, sexism, and homophobia get louder—it’s clear that silence is complicity.
I’m done staying neutral. If you’re in this industry for the long haul, you need to understand: your brand can’t sit on the fence. You’ve got to choose a side. And if you’re not standing for real love—love that includes everyone—you’re standing for hate, whether you like it or not.

I’m not here to work with just anyone, and I hope you feel the same way. I don’t want to celebrate the love of people who support systems built on oppression. I don’t want to make money off clients who don’t believe in equality. And if that makes some people uncomfortable? Good. Let them leave. I want my work—and yours—to be about something real. I want to celebrate love that fights back against the systems of control designed to keep us down. And I want the world to know exactly where I stand.
If you want to build a brand that attracts clients who believe in love without limits, love without hate, love without fear—this is why taking a stand matters.
Racism: Why It Matters to You as a Photographer

Racism isn’t just a political issue—it’s about who gets to exist freely in this world, and who doesn’t. We’ve all scrolled through countless wedding sites featuring nothing but straight, white couples, pretending that’s the only kind of love that exists. That’s a symptom of a much larger problem: a world that dehumanizes people of color. If you’re not actively fighting against that narrative, you’re part of the problem.
As photographers, we don’t just capture love stories—we shape them. And when you make it clear that your brand is a safe, welcoming place for people of color, you’re not just doing the right thing. You’re attracting clients who value diversity, who value equality, and who will trust you to capture their stories authentically. You’re building a brand that stands for something real, and that’s how you get clients who actually care about more than just aesthetics.
Sexism: Why Smashing the Patriarchy Is Good for Business

The wedding industry is filled with patriarchal traditions. From who walks who down the aisle to endless chatter about "the bride’s special day," we’re surrounded by reminders that gender roles are alive and well. But here’s the thing: gender roles are a trap. They keep us—and our clients—stuck in outdated boxes, where men are stoic and tough, and women are emotional and delicate. This isn’t love—it’s control.
When you stand against sexism, you attract clients who want to break free from those roles. Clients who are looking for a photographer who will see them as partners—equals—in love, not as participants in a tired old script. And that’s the kind of love worth capturing. When you take a stand, you’re telling the world that you celebrate all kinds of love, not just the kind that fits into a patriarchal mold.
Homophobia & Transphobia: Why Supporting LGBTQIA+ Rights Strengthens Your Brand

The fight for LGBTQIA+ rights is the fight for love itself. It’s not just about politics—it’s about whether or not people are free to love who they love, without fear of judgment or violence. And if you’re not making it clear that your brand supports queer love, you’re missing out on the chance to be a true ally.
Too many photographers still treat LGBTQIA+ weddings like side projects—only posting a token same-sex couple during Pride Month and calling it "allyship." But real support happens every day, not just when it’s convenient. When you’re loud and proud about your support for queer love, you’ll attract clients who are looking for more than just pretty pictures. They’ll know that you see them, that you value them, and that you’ll capture their love story in a way that’s authentic and real.
Fascism: Why Fighting Fascism Is Fighting for Love

Fascism isn’t just a relic from the past—it’s a rising threat. And it’s not just about politics—it’s about who gets to be free. Fascism thrives on control: control over who gets to speak, who gets to love, who gets to live. It divides people, forces them into hierarchies, and tries to stamp out anyone who doesn’t conform. Fascism is the enemy of love.
When you take a stand against fascism, you’re not just making a political statement—you’re telling the world that your brand stands for freedom. You’re making it clear that love cannot exist in a world filled with oppression and hate. And the clients who share your values will find you because they’ll see you’re not afraid to take a stand for something real.
Why This Will Help You Get the Clients You Want

Here’s the deal: when you make it clear where you stand, you’ll stop attracting clients who don’t align with your values. You’ll stop wasting time with people who think love is only for the privileged few. And you’ll start working with clients who share your belief in love that’s bold, fearless, and inclusive.
Do you really want to be photographing couples who don’t believe in equality? Do you want to celebrate love that’s built on division? Or do you want to work with people who believe in love that’s real, love that doesn’t care about race, gender, or politics? When you take a stand, the right clients will find you. They’ll see your brand and know you’re someone who values what they value. And that’s how you build a business that lasts.
The world is full of photographers who will stay quiet, who will work with anyone for the right price. But those photographers will never build long-lasting connections with couples who truly care. They’ll never have clients who refer them because they believe in them. But you will. When you stand for something real, people notice. They care. And they’ll trust you to capture their stories.
If you’re ready to stop playing it safe and build a brand that stands for something real, hit reply. Let’s talk about how you can attract the clients you actually want by standing up for love that’s inclusive, bold, and fearless.
